A severe cloudburst struck Jod Ghati village in Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, during the night of August 16–17, 2025, resulting in at least seven deaths and several injuries. The heavy rains caused flash floods and landslides, damaging homes, roads, and local infrastructure, while temporarily cutting off access to affected villages.
Rescue operations are underway with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), army, police, and local administration working together to evacuate residents and provide relief to the injured. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief over the loss of lives and instructed authorities to take immediate relief measures.
Additional regions in Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra, including Mandi and parts of Mumbai, have experienced heavy rainfall leading to waterlogging, flash floods, and overflowing reservoirs. Authorities have issued warnings and are closely monitoring the situation to ensure public safety.
The monsoon season has already caused significant damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and property across northern India, prompting disaster management agencies to stay on high alert.
