A severe cloudburst struck a remote village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district overnight, causing flash floods and landslides. Officials confirmed that at least four people lost their lives, while several others were injured.
The incident took place in the Janglote area, cutting off access to the village and damaging some houses, a railway track, and part of National Highway-44. Local authorities, along with the Army, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and police, have initiated rescue and evacuation operations.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed officials to provide immediate relief and ensure the safety of residents in affected areas.
Authorities have issued a weather advisory, warning residents to avoid rivers, streams, and landslide-prone zones due to the heavy rainfall. Helplines have been set up for assistance: 01922-238796 and 9858034100.
This cloudburst follows recent floods in other parts of Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the vulnerability of hilly regions during the monsoon season.
