On August 17, 2025, Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi began his 16-day-long “Voter Adhikar Yatra” from Sasaram, Bihar. The campaign will cover over 1,300 km across more than 20 districts and is scheduled to conclude with a large rally in Patna on September 1.
The Yatra aims to raise awareness about voters’ rights, especially in light of concerns regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Rahul Gandhi emphasized that the movement is a fight to safeguard the fundamental democratic principle of “one person, one vote.”
Senior leaders from the INDIA bloc, including Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav, are participating in the Yatra. Both leaders have vowed to protect citizens’ voting rights and criticized attempts to undermine democracy.
Party spokespersons highlighted that the Yatra represents a significant democratic effort, aiming to ensure that eligible voters are not excluded from the electoral process. The campaign includes a mix of public rallies, awareness events, and outreach activities across Bihar.
Supporters have gathered at key locations along the route, raising slogans in support of voting rights and the democratic process. The Yatra is being conducted in a hybrid mode, combining foot marches and vehicle convoys, similar to previous nationwide campaigns by Rahul Gandhi.
